Read the following email

Hey Frank,

It was great hearing from you. I'm so glad that you are settled into your new place. And I'm glad that you are getting used to your new job.

Your email reminded me of when I moved to Bay View. Did I ever tell you that story? It was one of the craziest days of my life.

I was moving from Lakeside. In the morning, my roommate and I put everything in a truck, and then we drove to Bay View. The landlord wasn't there, and we had to return the truck. We decided to take all the furniture and boxes out of the truck and put everything on the lawn. My roommate returned the truck while I waited.

When my roommate came back, the landlord still wasn't there. Luckily, our barbecue grill was on the lawn, along with all our other stuff. So we got some food and started having a barbecue. We even called some friends. After all, we had a sofa, a table, and some chairs on the lawn. About ten people came. We had a housewarming party before we even moved in!

I guess we were making a lot of noise, because some neighbors called the landlord (I didn't have his cell phone number, which is why I couldn't call him). Finally, the landlord came at about 10 o'clock at night. That night was quite an adventure!

Anyway, I just wanted to say that we miss you and we're thinking of you. Thanks for saying hi. Let's stay in touch!

Writing tip


When writing a narrative paragraph, use phrases of time and place such as In the morning or Back at home. This will help make it clear when and where the events happen. It will make it easier for readers to follow your story.

Task

Read the model of the email again and analyze it. Write a similar email telling a friend what you did yesterday. 

Remember, before writing a narrative paragraph, it is a good idea to complete a timeline to write your email to a friend. Include phrases of time/dates and place to make it clear when and where the events happened.
